Chisinau, 18 June /MOLDPRES/ - Italy fully backs Moldova’s accession to the European Union. A confirmation in this respect is also the Joint Declaration signed by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy Edmondo Cirielli. The ceremony took place in the presence of Presidents Maia Sandu and Sergio Mattarella, within an official visit to Moldovan by the Italian official.

It is for the first time when the Italian government makes such a declaration supporting a state candidate for accession to EU. Italy thus reconfirms the idea that Moldova’s integration into the European area would bring mutual benefits to the two countries, promoting the investments and the commercial exchanges, as well as a stronger cooperation in the political, social and cultural fields.

„The enlargement of the European Union is an investment in peace, security, stability and prosperity. Italy recognizes the ever enhancing contribution of Moldova to the regional and European security. We commit to deepen our bilateral cooperation in such sectors as the commerce, investments, energy, security, education and cultural exchanges, consolidating even more the relations between our peoples,’’ the Joint Declaration reads.

„We appreciate and we are grateful for this proof of solidarity and friendship on behalf of a state founder of EU, which hosts also the largest community of Moldovan citizens from Europe. We will work in continuation, in order to meet all criteria of accession and bring Moldova to the great European family,’’ Deputy PM for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov said.
