Moldovan PM has meeting with representatives of Red Cross organization

Chisinau, 17 May /MOLDPRES/ - The support provided by the Red Cross Organization to the vulnerable people from Moldova, including the refugees, has been discussed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at a meeting with representatives of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.  

The PM thanked the organization for the support provided to the vulnerable categories of the population and for having facilitated the hosting of the people who took refuge in Moldova. ‘’By investing in Moldova, you help those over 100,000 Ukrainian citizens who stay here, especially as we want to better integrate them into the society,’’ the prime minister said.  

The representatives of the organization assured that the latter maintained the commitment to back the humanitarian needs of Moldova and, to this end, it would closely cooperate with the authorities in continuation. The sides also highlighted the opportunities of Moldova’s accession to the European Union for the work of the humanitarian organization, with more support funds due to be available.    

Eighteen branches of the organization are open in Moldova, in which over 1,000 volunteers are involved. In the context of the crisis triggered by Russia’s aggression in Ukraine, the organization had an important role in the management of the flow of refugees and providing of the assistance so necessary both for them and the host communities. The organization provided humanitarian assistance worth 3 million euros, as well as financial assistance amounting to 2 million euros.  

Presently, the organization continues to provide support to cover the costs of work of the Centres of Temporary Placement for Refugees.
