PHOTO Ukraine defeats Moldova in friendly football match

Chisinau, 12 June /MOLDPRES/ - The national football team of Ukraine, with all its leading players in the team, won the ‘’solidarity friendly match’’ against the national football team of Moldova with the score 4:0.  

Mykhailo Mudryk, Oleksandr Zinchenko or Viktor Tsygankov made a show before 10,000 spectators in stands, of whom several thousands of Ukrainian refugees.  

Ukraine quickly scored the first goal at the Zimbru stadium, with Roman Yaremchuk taking advantage of a mistake by Vladislav Baboglo in the defence. While dominating in the field the entire first half, a footballer from Girona, Victor Tsygankov, scored the second goal following a superb phase on the 43rd minute.     

The second half continued in the same way: Ukraine’s team attacking and the team of Moldova in an attempt to counterattack, in order to reward with a goal of honour the supporters in the stands, including President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. The national team of Ukraine eventually won the match with the score 4:0.    

The Moldovan footballers had possibility to score the goal of honour; yet, goalkeeper Andriy Lunin of Ukraine proved why he had become the goalkeeper of Real Madrid, - the fresh champion of Europe.   

„We were everybody with the national football team of Moldova, at a friendly match with Ukraine. I was happy to see the stands full of supporters, children and adults, who came to back the national team. It is nice to enjoy together each match. And no matter the result, we should learn from football that there is always room for respect, dignity, correctness. We thank our footballers for the fact that they make us proud, for bringing us together in stands, where we everybody shout, Come on, Moldova!’’ Maia Sandu wrote on Facebook.         

The friendly match with Ukraine is part of the schedule of the national team’s preparation for the Nations League 2024/25. The Moldovan team will start playing in this competition in next September. The match with the national team of Malta is scheduled for 7 September in Moldova. Moldova will be member of the D2 group, where its adversaries will be the national teams of Malta and Andorra.   

On the other hand, the national football team of Ukraine qualified for the European Football Championship, due in Germany.

Ukraine is fighting in the E Group against Romania, Belgium and Slovakia. Ukraine will play against Romania on 17 June at 16:00.
