Italian President on visit to Chisinau

Chisinau, 18 June. /MOLDPRES/- Italian President Sergio Mattarella came to Chisinau on Monday. The Italian official jointly with Moldovan President Maia Sandu attended a concert dedicated to Italian composer Giacomo Puccini yesterday evening in Chisinau.

"The official visit of the Italian President started with a concert, at which some of the best artists from Moldova performed. Together we celebrated Giacomo Puccini, as 2024 is the year of the famous Italian composer, and we admired the rich musical heritage of our countries," the head of state said.

Attending the event were Speaker Igor Grosu, Minister of Culture Sergiu Prodan, Italian Ambassador to Moldova Lorenzo Tomassoni and other officials.

On 18 June, Maia Sandu will welcome her Italian counterpart Sergio Mattarella to the Presidency in an official ceremony, and the two heads of state will hold a joint press conference afterwards.

In the context of the Italian president's visit, police have announced certain traffic restrictions.

This is the first official visit of an Italian Head of State to the Republic of Moldova.

Italy is an important partner of the Republic of Moldova. This country hosts the largest Moldovan diaspora community. Cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Republic of Italy takes place on many levels. Italy is Moldova's sixth largest trading partner, with more than 1,200 Italian-owned companies present in our country.
