Moldova prepared for negotiations on accession to EU; Cabinet signs protocol document

Chisinau, 21 June /MOLDPRES/ - The government today approved Moldova’s position on the negotiation of the draft treaty on accession to the European Union. The document will be unveiled next week at the first Moldova-European Union Intergovernmental Conference, which fixes the starting of the negotiations on accession. Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that the plan on Moldova’s European integration was ambitious, but realistic, with quite clear indicators for each chapter of negotiation, which is to bring direct benefits to each person from Moldova.     

The document was approved by the cabinet after the National Commission for European Integration, chaired by President Maia Sandu, today morning had discussed Moldova’s position for the negotiation of the draft treaty on accession to EU and the head of state signed the Decree on the starting of the negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union.  

„The protocol document was approved by the government, was signed by all cabinet members and I will present is next week at the first Moldova-EU Intergovernmental Conference.

Moldova’s priority is the enhancement of the economic resilience and competitiveness. We are set to make an as quick as possible integration of our economy into the since European market; we will ask for access to all EU’s financing instruments and inside the country, we set the goal to approve the entire European legislation till 2030.  

The plan on Moldova’s European integration is ambitious, but realistic, with quite clear indicators for each chapter of negotiation, which is to bring direct benefits for each person from our country.  

I am sure that the entire team of the government, led by Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov, in her capacity of chief negotiator on behalf of Moldova, will manage to successfully cover this process of accession to the European Union,’’ PM Dorin Recean noted.   

After the today’s cabinet meeting, the spokesman for the government, Daniel Voda, informed that Prime Minister Dorin Recean would lead the country’s delegation to the first Moldova-EU Intergovernmental Conference, due in Luxembourg on 25 June.  

„Today, we made a decisive step for the European Moldova. Prime Minister Dorin Recean will be the one to lead the delegation due to represent Moldova in Luxembourg at the official launch of the negotiations on accession to EU. The delegation is made up of more cabinet members, including Cristina Gherasimov, Mihai Popsoi, Dumitru Alaiba, Vladimir Bolea, Veronica Mihailov-Moraru, Dan Perciun, Andrei Spinu and Government’s Secretary General Artur Mija. Hundreds of people, civil servants stay behind the efforts of the country’s modernization, including who make each one’s work lead to our country goal, to edify the European Moldova and bring our country closer to the status of full-fledged member of the area of peace and stability which EU represents. And Moldova EU member is the only way which the authorities consistently promote, as it brings peace, welfare and a better life for all citizens. The additional information about the intergovernmental commission will be communicated in early next week,’’ Daniel Voda said.       

The European Union officially opens the negotiations on the accession of Moldova and Ukraine. On 25 June, the EU’s Belgian Presidency will summon the first intergovernmental conferences with the two countries.   

The European Council ruled to start the negotiations on accession with Moldova and Ukraine at the summit from 14 December 2023. The decision was taken, after both states had got the status of country candidate for accession two years ago.
