Chisinau, 26 June /MOLDPRES/ - An event dedicated to the national costume took place at the parliament’s headquarters on 25 June. The event was organized by the Platform of Women MPs, in partnership with the National Ethnography and Natural History Museum (MNEIN), in order to promote the cultural heritage and the European vocation of Moldova.

At the event, an exhibition of national costumes from different regions of Moldova was staged, which contains pieces from MNEIN’s heritage. Thus, during two days, parliament’s visitors will be able to admire 20 national costumes made by popular craftsmen, which transpose the traditions from diverse settlements of Moldova.

Also, an area which reproduces the cultural traditions of Moldova’s people was set on the parliament’s square for visitors.

„The embroidered peasant blouse makes us obvious, as it contains elements in which our history and culture are encoded. We will move with it to the European Union and will show how deep our heritage is,’’ Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said.

„I am proud that today the government is in Luxembourg, where they discuss the initiation of the negotiations on accession to EU and here at the parliament, we celebrate the national traditions and values. The European Union is about diversity and waits us with our values,’’ Deputy Parliament Speaker, the head of the council of coordination of the Platform of Women MPs Doina Gherman said.

„The collection unveiled at the parliament is made up of 20 full costumes, all with relevant information about the region from where they are and the masters which made them. These pieces were donated to the Museum by popular craftsmen and presently are part of the national heritage,’’ the director of the National Ethnography and Natural History Museum, Petru Vicol, said.

The Day of Embroidered Peasant Blouse has been annually marked on 24 June starting from 2013. Also, on the last Sunday of June, the Day of National Costume will be marked. Beginning with 2022, UNESCO introduced the art of the traditional blouse with embroidery on the shoulder in the Intangible Cultural Heritage of the Humanity.
