Chisinau, July 8 /MOLDPRES/- Former Prosecutor General Alexandr Stoianoglo has been proposed by PSRM to run as an opposition candidate in the presidential elections. Socialist leader Igor Dodon made the statement today. He called on opposition parties to support the candidate.

PSRM leader Igor Dodon stressed that the party will not put forward a party candidate in the presidential elections.

"Citizens expect the opposition to participate jointly in this election - a gesture of political maturity. People want a strengthening of opposition political forces and an effective development strategy. PSRM will not put forward a party candidate in the presidential elections. We will support a single candidate, around whom the opposition will consolidate. It is important to show political maturity," Dodon said.

Dodon said Stoianoglo is a professional candidate and called on opposition parties to support him.

For his part, Stoianoglo said that the decision to run in the presidential elections was influenced by several factors. "Now there is no room for ambitions, there is only responsibility and tasks set. We want a neutral European Moldova with social and security guarantees. I am not a politician. I am able to discuss with party leaders, regardless of their vision. The task of a head of state is to unify, to seek a compromise, this is what people need", said Stoianoglo.

Presidential elections will be held on October 20. On the same day, the republican constitutional referendum on the country's accession to the EU will be held.
