18:13 | 16.07.2024 Category: Regional

Chisinau, July 16 /MOLDPRES/- Residents of Răciula village, Călărași district will have tap water after the construction of a water aqueduct in the locality. The works were carried out under the European Village program, first edition, and cost about 3.6 million lei.

At present, the centralized water system connected to the artesian well in Răciula serves a total of 370 households, with around 1,400 people out of 2,400 inhabitants.

The total value of the project amounts to about 3.6 million lei, of which 2.2 million lei was allocated by the Moldovan Government through the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, and the local public administration contributed almost 1.4 million lei.

Mayor Maria David says that the village of Răciula never had a centralized water supply and for most of the villagers tap water was an unattainable dream. In recent years, most of the village's wells have dried up and in others, water levels have dropped drastically. Then people would travel for kilometers in search of water elsewhere.

Now, thanks to the European Village Program, the situation has changed.

Now water reaches even the remotest corners of the village, where people have lived for years in the hope that they would have water in their households.

According to the data of the National Office for Regional and Local Development, so far, through the European Village program, first edition, 123 projects aimed at providing water and sanitation to the country's localities have been completed, out of a total of 154 approved projects.
