Chisinau, 23 July /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu has discussed the development of communities from Moldova with about 150 women mayors and leaders in their settlements. They participated in an event titled, Women mayors –  EU ambassadors, the presidential press service has reported.

The head of state told the women mayors that Moldova now had real opportunity  to integrate into the European Union and to modernize; yet, clarity and courage are needed, in order to go this road in continuation.

„The citizens must decide what future they want – in a safe and strong country, in the great European family, or in an isolated and vulnerable country. It is necessary that we have the courage to make the right choice, despite the scarecrows and lies spread by those who do not respect our country,’’ the Moldovan president stressed. She urged the women mayors to talk to people about the benefits of the European integration for their families and communities.

The head of state noted that the European integration meant that we can put Moldova in safety. This means more resources for settlements’ modernization – European roads; access to water and sewerage; modern kindergartens, schools and hospitals; qualitative public services – projects which have already started doing with the European Union’s support. ‘’I was happy to hear that the European Village programme, which I have been promoted since the first day of mandate, contributes to the development of hundreds of villages and towns from Moldova. This is a beginning of the way, on which we must move resolutely together,’’ President Maia Sandu added.
