National Bee Day to be marked in Moldova

Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - The National Bee Day will be annually marked in Moldova on 20 May. The MPs today voted a draft on the completion of the parliament decision on commemorative days, holidays and days off.
The proposal to establish the holiday comes on behalf of bee keepers of the National Association of Bee Keepers and is aimed at promoting the consumption of bee honey and apicultural products by the population.
According to the author of the legislative initiative, a lawmaker of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), Gheorghe Ichim, the breeding of bees and the production of honey represents a national occupation in most settlements of Moldova.
„The promotion of the increase in the consumption of bee honey and apicultural products will contribute, during time, to the strengthening of the residents’ health, increase in the sales market for bee honey and apicultural products, including through the appearance of new opportunities of cooperation between economic agents from Moldova and other countries, implementation of the most advanced technologies and good practices of breeding bees, production of native honey and apicultural products,’’ reads the informative note to the draft law.
The World Bee Day was established by the General Assembly of the United Nations in 2017 and is early marked on 20 May, in order to emphasize the importance of bees for the mankind and the need to protect them, as well as of other pollinators, which play a crucial role in the enhancement of the productivity and promotion of the food security.
