Chisinau, Oct 2 /MOLDPRES/- Eleven Moldovan citizens have been evacuated from Lebanon. They are safe in Poland. Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi made the statement today.

The official said that there are no Moldovan citizens among the victims of Tuesday evening's attack on Israel.

"We have two evacuation requests, received late yesterday evening. We will make every effort to provide our citizens with support as we did for our citizens from Lebanon, who arrived safely in Poland yesterday evening", said Mihai Popșoi.

He noted that Moldova takes care of its citizens and will never leave them in danger. "Tomorrow morning or at noon, the 11 citizens, including mothers with children, are to arrive in the Republic of Moldova. There were 15 evacuation requests in Lebanon, these people are to be evacuated in the coming days. I would like to thank our partners in Kiev, who have provided the airplane for the evacuation of the citizens of Ukraine and Moldova. I would also like to thank the International Organization for Migration, which facilitated this process, including in Poland", he said.

According to Israeli media, up to 200 rockets were fired. Iran has previously announced it would retaliate following the attacks that killed the top leadership of its ally Hezbollah in Lebanon.

In Washington, U.S. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday night that the United States is prepared to help Israel defend itself against Iranian rocket attacks and protect the US military in the region.

The Israeli campaign in Lebanon is the biggest escalation in the regional war since fighting broke out in Gaza a year ago.
