Ministries of Agriculture of Moldova and Italy signed Memorandum on promotion of economic cooperation

Chisinau, May 16 /MOLDPRES/ - A Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forests of the Italian Republic was signed yesterday in Rome by Ministers Vladimir Bolea and Francesco Lollobrigida. The main objective of the document is to promote economic, social and technological cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Italy in the agricultural sector and rural development.

The memorandum provides for the exchange of knowledge and experience in various aspects of agriculture, including product diversification, digitalisation and innovation, environmental sustainability and risk management.

"A key element of the document is the harmonisation of agricultural legislation and policies with those of the European Union. It also aims to develop joint agricultural research programmes, exchange experience in setting up and running agricultural cooperatives, and develop joint higher education programmes in the agricultural field. Collaboration between our countries will also include the improvement of agricultural infrastructure and services through the organisation of study visits, training programmes for officials and participation in seminars, workshops and conferences," the MAIA points out.

The Memorandum of Understanding remains in force for a period of ten years, strengthening mutual commitment to the development of a modern and sustainable agricultural sector. It was signed at the 34th Session of the UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Regional Conference for Europe in Rome. Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea, Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry, has been elected Chair of the session and will lead the conference by 17 May.
