Chisinau, July 10 /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu today discussed with Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru the most difficult and urgent chapter of the EU accession negotiations, the presidential press service has reported.
Maia Sandu noted that the fight against corruption and building a strong and integral justice system is the fundamental condition for creating a just society in Moldova, and not just an important commitment for the accession process in Chapter 23 Judiciary and fundamental rights.
"But it is not enough to create the necessary conditions for the judiciary to clean up its act, to ensure that everyone is equal. What is needed is professional integrity and more courage on the part of judges and prosecutors," the head of state said.
The President emphasized that over the years in Moldova corruption has been turned into a weapon against the development and progress of our country. "Eliminating corruption takes time. As there is no other way to build a democratic society, the judiciary needs to take faster and more decisive steps," the head of state concluded.
