Moldovan head attends NATO Summit in Washington

Chisinau, July 12 /MOLDPRES/- Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mihai Popșoi has paid a visit to Washington. He attended NATO Summit marking the 75th anniversary of the creation of the Alliance.
The visit took place at the invitation of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
The Moldovan head took part as a speaker in the panel NATO Partnerships within the public forum. In his speech, the official reiterated Moldova's interest in the North Atlantic Alliance's expertise and assistance in the reform and modernization of Moldova's security and defense sector in line with international standards.
Popșoi spoke about the developments in regional security, the risks and effects of the war in Ukraine, the challenges to the security of the Republic of Moldova. The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed the strong support for Ukraine reconfirmed at the NATO Summit. "Support for Ukraine is also support for the Republic of Moldova. Solidarity will bring peace to the region and to the whole of Europe", said Popșoi.
He also held meetings with counterparts and officials of NATO member and partner countries. Mihai Popșoi discussed Moldova's agenda of priorities for the country's modernization and accession to the European Union.
The 10 July NATO meeting ended with the signing of a joint declaration mentioning the Republic of Moldova, calling on Russia to withdraw its forces stationed without consent on the territory of our country.
"We welcome the Republic of Moldova's efforts to continue democratic reforms as it moves forward with European integration, and we commit to support security and defense capabilities and strengthen the ability to counter hybrid threats," the statement reads.
