Petru Rotaru resigns from office of Moldova's finance minister

Chisinau, 25 July /MOLDPRES/ - Minister Petru Rotaru resigns from the office of finance minister and will continue working at the National Bank of Moldova (BNM). Prime Minister Dorin Recean today morning made statements to this effect. He thanked Rotaru for the work carried out at the ministry.
„I thank Mr. Petru Rotaru for his activity at the Finance Ministry, energy contribution in the government’s team and for the successful achievement of the goals set of the Finance Ministry, which deal with the fulfillment of the state budget. Petru consolidated the relations with the business environment, institutions of the central public administration and is a good friend of the local community. I am happy to known that Mr. Rotaru will continue his professional work in public service at the National Bank of Moldova,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.
The PM noted that, till the confirmation of his candidature in parliament, Petru Rotaru would carry through his mandate of finance minister.
At the same time, the National Bank of Moldova today morning informed that BNM Governor Anca Dragu today proposed that the parliament appoints Petru Rotaru to the office of deputy governor of the central bank.
„The decision is part of BNM’s approaches of ensuring the stability and continuous development of the financial sector from Moldova. We are sure that the experience, integrity and reputation of Mr. Rotaru will bring a significant contribution to the fulfillment of the task of the National Bank and to the consolidation of Moldova’s financial system,’’ BNM Governor Anca Dragu said.
The proposal on the appointment of Petru Rotaru is to be put to vote in Moldova’s parliament.
In the context, Petru Rotaru also came up with a message, noting that ‘’his mandate of finance minister is coming to an end.’’
„I want to express my deep gratitude to Prime Minister Dorin Recean for the team work and the support provided during my activity as finance minister. Our cooperation was essential for the achievement of the ambitious objectives which we set. I also appreciate especially the confidence of Mrs. Governor Anca Dragu for my nomination to the office of deputy governor of the National Bank of Moldova. This nomination is a great honour and a responsibility which I will take with all seriousness. And not in the least, I want to thank the colleagues from the Finance Ministry, partners from the business environment, development partners, colleagues from the central and local authorities and the ones of the civil society. Each intervention, piece of advice or criticism significantly contributed to the improvement of our processes, documents and interactions,’’ Petru Rotaru wrote.
Petru Rotaru was appointed to the office of finance minister in September 2023. He has earlier acted as head of the State Fiscal Service.
