Chișinău, August 15 /MOLDPRES/- President Maia Sandu says the modernization plan for localities, initiated in 2022, is yielding results, the presidential press service has reported.

“European Village is the most impactful local development and infrastructure construction program since independence,” says Maia Sandu.

The head of state notes that about 1.8 billion lei have already been invested in 906 localities. “It is the first time a government has invested such large sums in such a short period to improve living conditions in the country's localities,” the president said.

Maia Sandu also highlights that over 80% of the country's city halls participated with projects in the 2nd edition of the European Village program, showing the program’s importance for everyone — both for citizens and development of the village. A total of 612 localities from all corners of Moldova have been selected where the government will invest funds. Water supply and sewerage networks will be built in over 200 villages. Additionally, street lighting networks will be constructed in more than 50 villages.

“We will renovate 52 kindergartens, 37 secondary schools, 62 sports complexes, and 63 cultural houses. We will build 36 photovoltaic parks in 30 villages so people can access cheaper and cleaner green energy. For example, in the villages of Telița in Anenii Noi, Mihuleni in Șoldănești, or Cișmichioi in Gagauzia, we will provide water, while the villages of Zaim, Căușeni, Inești, Telenești, and Ghelăuza, Strășeni will have sewage systems. The village of Petreni, Drochia will have a leisure and sports complex, and the village of Bumbăta, Ungheni will have a mini-football stadium. The village of Hiliuți, Râșcani will have a renovated cultural house, and the village of Văsieni, Ialoveni will have a repaired and equipped kindergarten,” the head of state said.

The president points out that over 1 million people will benefit from these projects. “The allocated funds amount to 2.5 billion lei and show the concrete benefits of our closer ties with the European Union. I thank the mayors and all the teams in the central and local administration who are working to transform our localities into European ones. This is how we build a good life at home,” the head of state said.
