Maia Sandu takes oath of swearing in office of Moldova's President

Chisinau, 24 December /MOLDPRES/ - Maia Sandu has taken the oath of swearing in the office of Moldova’s President and began exercising the position starting from today. The swearing-in-office ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Chisinau-based Palace of the Republic.
The joint solemn meeting of Moldova’s Parliament and the Constitutional Court was opened by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu. Following the singing of the National Anthem, President of the Constitutional Court Domnica Manole read the ruling on the validation of the elections. Subsequently, Maia Sandu took the oath with the hand on the Constitution.
„I swear to give all my strength and skill to the flourishing of the Republic of Moldova, to observe the Constitution and the laws of the country, to defend the democracy, the fundamental human rights and freedoms, the sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity of Moldova,’’ Maia Sandu said.
Following the swearing in office, the president of the Constitutional Court informed that Moldova’s president had started fulfilling her office duties as of today.
Maia Sandu is the first woman head of state and the sixth president of Moldova. She became the first president elected by the people who managed to get two mandates.
Under the Republic of Moldova’s Constitution, the oath is taken before the Parliament and the Constitutional Court, 45 days after the elections at the latest. The mandate of Moldova’s President lasts four years and is exercised starting from the date of taking the oath.
