Moldovan PM has meeting with German Federal Chancellor

Chisinau, 21 August /MOLDPRES/ - Prime Minister Dorin Recean has had a meeting with Federal Chancellor of Germany Olaf Scholz, on a working visit to Moldova. The two officials discussed the present level of the Moldovan-German relations, as well as how the partnership between the two countries can be strengthened and the support enhanced, in order to advance on the European path, the government’s communication department has reported.   

The PM thanked Chancellor Olaf Scholz for the support provided by Germany in the carrying out of the projects on Moldova’s modernization. ‘’For over 30 years, Germany has been a reliable friend for us. We rely, in continuation, on our solid partnership in all fields of common interest, including for our Diaspora settled in Germany,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.     

The Moldovan-German cooperation comprises a wide range of projects implemented in such sectors as energy efficiency, domestic affairs, education and professional training, development of entrepreneurship and of rural communities, the water supply infrastructure, health, public administration.    

The Moldovan prime minister said that, as Moldova advances on the European integration way, the partnership with the EU states becomes ever more important and stronger, in order to overcome together the regional challenges, promote the common values and peace.  

The officials also highlighted the improvement of the economic relations. Germany is one of the principal commercial partners of Moldova and over 400 enterprises benefit from German investments. 

Olaf Scholz visited Moldova on 1 June 2023, when he participated in the Summit of the European Political Community, along with other European leaders. The last bilateral visit to Moldova by a German chancellor took place 12 years ago.
