Chisinau, 10 September /MOLDPRES/ - The Moldovan-Slovakian agenda, the extension of the economic and investment relations between the two states, Moldova’s European integration way, as well as other subjects of interest were discussed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean and Slovakian PM in Bratislava today, the government’s communication department has reported.
The Moldovan PM appreciated the assistance provided by Slovakia to Moldova, especially through the Slovak Agency for International Development Cooperation (SlovakAid). In the last ten years, SlovakAid has implemented more projects in key sectors in Moldova, with an overall value of about 10 million euros. At the same time, Prime Minister Dorin Recean highlighted the firm support of Slovakia in the process of Moldova’s integration into the European Union.
According to the Moldovan PM, Slovakia’s example, which 20 years ago chose its future in a union of democratic states, is a source of inspiration for Moldova. Following the integration into the European Union, Slovakia went through a significant transformation: the economy grew by 80 per cent, the people’s salaries doubled, hundreds of thousands of jobs were created and the poverty level reduced by a half. At the same time, the security provided by Slovakia’s accession to EU and the Euro area encouraged important foreign direct investments. For years in a row, Slovakia was the biggest producer of vehicles per head in the world.
„We see how, after the accession to the European Union, Slovakia made a huge leap forward. You have become more prosperous, more innovating and stronger. This is also Moldova’s priority. We have a plan for the European Moldova and we continue the reforms necessary, in order to provide better living conditions for the citizens and for ensuring peace and well-being. Moldova’s place is in the great European family and your support is quite important for us,’’ PM Dorin Recean said.
Also, the Moldovan prime minister referred to the boosting of the Moldovan-Slovakian cooperation in the economic and commercial sector and encouraged the participation of Slovakian companies in strategic projects in Moldova: ’’Moldova has the best wines and a vibrant IT industry, which provides more investment opportunities, including in the field of digital innovation and advanced technological services. Besides, we have a dynamic legislative framework and friendly for investments in renewable energy and sustainable infrastructures.’’
During discussions, the officials also touched upon the cooperation within joint projects on energy efficiency, sources of renewable energy and technologies of storing energy, which would bring a string of advantages to both countries. At the same time, both countries welcomed the signing of the Protocol on the amendment of the Convention between Moldova and Slovakia on the avoidance of double taxation as to the taxes on income and property.
Slovakian Prime Minister Robert Fico reconfirmed Slovakia’s full willingness to back Moldova on its European integration path. He reaffirmed Slovakia’s commitment for the consolidation of the bilateral partnership and supporting the reforms underway in Moldova ‘’I assure you that Moldova will be placed, in continuation, among the countries which, as priority, will benefit from support on our behalf. There is no better solution for you but to be member of the European Union and we will share, at the pre-accession stage, all the experience we have,’’ Slovak PM Robert Fico said.
