Chisinau, Oct 11 /MOLDPRES/- The Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry (MAIA) has issued an order to distribute 400 tons of wheat seed material to support farmers affected by severe drought and difficult climatic conditions this summer. The order will be published in the Official Journal on October 15, according to a statement today by Deputy Prime Minister Vladimir Bolea.

To be eligible for this aid, farmers must be owners or holders of agricultural land cultivated with wheat, who have recorded losses of more than 70% due to drought in 2024, confirmed by the damage ascertainment documents.

The Deputy Prime Minister also noted that October 11, 2024 is the last day for submitting applications for the allocation of financial aid funds for farmers affected by extreme natural phenomena in 2024. The government has allocated 100 million lei through the Intervention Fund to partially compensate the losses caused by drought and severe heat in 2024, which affected wheat and corn crops. The financial aid will be granted to those farmers whose crops have suffered significant damage, at least 60% of the maize crop or 70% of the wheat crop.

"The Ministry of Agriculture is developing long-term solutions to transform agriculture into a sustainable and durable sector. In this context, a new program dedicated to viticulture will come into force next year, with an allocation of 300,000 lei per hectare for planting vines with local varieties. Through this program, we aim to turn to good account Moldova's wine-growing traditions and support local production of high quality grapes", Bolea said.
