Chisinau, 11 October /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today had a meeting with representatives of trade unions and employers. The sides discussed Moldova’s transformation on its way to the European Union, the presidential press service has reported.

The discussions were focused on the plan of economic growth, elaborated by the Moldovan government and financially backed by EU. President Maia Sandu said that the country needed a sustainable economic growth, in order to modernize the country, reconstruct the economy and consolidate the state’s institutions with quick steps.

According to the Presidency, the financial support announced by the European Commission implies major investments in all strategic sectors and will bring concrete benefits to the citizens: tens of thousands of jobs, backing the financing of 5,000 new businesses and the support of 25,000 small businesses, sewerage and modern collection of waste for 1.5 million people, construction of bridges across the Prut river and of a highway due to connect Moldova, Romania and Ukraine, the building of two big regional hospitals in Cahul and Balti, the afforestation of 63,000 hectares.

This unprecedented investment plan will boost the country’s economy and will generate jobs, as well as recognition of the progress made in the last years. ‘’We have support in order to develop; in the next years, much work and unity of efforts at the domestic level are needed, so that this package of financial support enhances the well-being of all our citizens and helps us modernize all the country with quick steps. Each of us should give a helping hand to this ambitious plan – the state’s institutions, trade unions, employers, the business environment, each citizen individually. All of us want Moldova to have well-paid jobs and the people should choose to work at home,’’ Maia Sandu said.
