Chisinau, Oct 22 /MOLDPRES/- The vote of almost 1.5 million people who participated in the referendum reaffirms that we are a democracy where every vote counts. In spite of Russia's interference and hybrid war, Moldova's democracy has resisted. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov made the statements in the context of the presidential elections and referendum held on 20 October.

"From north to south, both in the western and eastern districts of our country and in the diaspora, Moldovans have spoken. The vote of almost 1.5 million people who participated in the referendum reaffirms that we are a democracy where every vote counts. In spite of Russia's interference and hybrid war, Moldova's democracy has resisted. I thank all citizens for making their voice heard. Most of them said YES for the European future of our country", Gherasimov said.

The official assured that the authorities will continue to work "with even greater responsibility, being even more determined to bring Moldova into the European Union".

"We will continue to respond to the real concerns of the citizens and bring the European idea closer to every locality in the country - so that we can all enjoy a decent life at home. Together we are making the country safe and we are building the future that a few years ago we only dreamed of and which together we can make a reality", concluded Gherasimov.

Presidential elections and republican constitutional referendum on Moldova's accession to the European Union were held in the Republic of Moldova on 20 October.
