Chisinau, 11 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu today summoned the Supreme Security Council (CSS) to a meeting. At the event, the head of state tackled the issue of political corruption and demanded firm and quick actions for its combating, the presidential press service has reported.
„The purchasing of votes at the elections of this autumn, the foreign financing of electoral contenders, the actions of the country’s destabilization - all these represent a serious attack on the democracy and security of the state. Crime rings were at the edge of distorting the results of the two ballots, through illegal means and dirty money,’’ President Maia Sandu stressed.
The head of state said that the country faced this situation, given that the political corruption had not been sanctioned in time. ‘’The modest actions of the prosecutor’s office and the postponing of files’ consideration in law courts created a feeling of impunity, which the crime rings used, in order to involve a huge number of people in schemes of corrupting votes. We have at our disposal several months to improve the situation, in order to make sure that such frauds will not repeat,’’ Maia Sandu noted.
The head of state specified that CSS had recommended that the government, along with the parliament and other competent institutions, ensure the needed framework for the consideration, as a priority, and in useful terms, of the cases of political corruption and consolidate the legislation in the national security sector.
„The legal framework and the procedures can be improved in continuation, but the most important thing is that the people from the justice system do their job honestly. I thank all those who worked against time and managed to defend the citizens’ vote at these elections,’’ President Maia Sandu said.
The head of state also said that, till the end of this week, she would organize public discussions with representatives of political parties and the civil society on the actions which must be undertaken to combat the political and electoral corruption.
