Chisinau, Nov. 12 /MOLDPRES/- Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) today handed a protest note to Russia's Ambassador to Moldova Oleg Ozerov on "illegal and deliberate interference of the Russian Federation in the electoral process of the Republic of Moldova".
According to the MAE, the actions were aimed at "distorting the results of the presidential elections and the constitutional republican referendum, undermining and delegitimizing the democratic process of the Republic of Moldova."
It also strongly condemned the violation of the airspace of the Republic of Moldova, given that on November 10, two Russian drones were spotted on the sovereign territory of the Republic of Moldova - one in Causeni district and the other in Riscani.
"The competent institutions in our country have clear information that the drones were launched by the Russian Federation. The ambassador has been warned that such aggressive incursions constitute a serious violation and an unfriendly gesture of the Russian Federation, as these drones endanger the lives of citizens," the institution noted.
The Foreign Ministry has repeatedly called on the Russian authorities "to cease these actions immediately and to refrain in the future from any interference in Moldova's internal affairs".
Last week, Moldovan Ambassador to the Russian Federation Lilian Darii was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry, where he protested against the refusal to accredit observers to monitor the elections. In this context, the MAE noted that "the professional status of the non-accredited persons was incompatible with that of an international observer".
