Chisinau, 1 December /MOLDPRES/ - Moldova is in solidarity with the Georgian people, which defends its democracy and European future. President Maia Sandu today conveyed a message on support for Georgia, which faces comprehensive pro-European protests, during a discussion with Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili.

„I have just talked with Salome Zurabishvili. I expressed Moldova’s solidarity with the Georgian people and my personal admiration for their courage in defending the democracy and the European way. The Moldovans and Georgians share the same aspiration for a peaceful and prosperous future in EU,’’ Maia Sandu has written on the X Platform.

On the last three nights, thousands of demonstrators took to street in Tbilisi and other cities of Georgia, in order to protest against the cabinet’s decision to postpone the country’s ambitions of joining EU till 2028. The demonstrators were dispersed by water cannons and tear gas by the police, which arrested over 150 people.

The American diplomacy on 30 November denounced ‘’the excessive use of force by the police’’ against the pro-European demonstrations, which have shaken Georgia and its government, accused by the opposition of turning the country away from its ambitions to join EU.

Pro-European President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili on 30 November informed that she refused to withdraw from office – in the context that her mandate ends this year – till the organization of new parliamentary elections in this country, which is in full political crisis.
