Moldovan, European officials approach current issues

Chisinau, Dec. 4. /MOLDPRES/- Moldova's progress on the European integration was discussed in Brussels on December 3 at a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Cristina Gherasimov, responsible for European Integration, and Marta Kos, the new EU commissioner for enlargement.

On a visit to Brussels, Gherasimov had her first meeting with Marta Kos, who was recently elected to the position within the European Commission. Gherasimov said she also discussed with the European official the possibilities of gradual integration into the EU. "We talked about the progress made in the past year on the European agenda, the future priorities in the negotiation process, as well as new possibilities of gradual integration into the European Union over the next few years," Gherasimov said.

Gherasimov appreciated the constant support of the European Commission for Moldova's modernization. She also said she had the opportunity to meet the new Commissioner for Enlargement, Marta Kos, from Slovenia, a country with which Moldova has good cooperation and friendly relations.

Gherasimov is on a working visit to Brussels on December 2-6. She said that the Republic of Moldova has made significant progress this year on the European path and remains firm in its commitment to join the EU and improve the lives of its citizens. The Association Committee examined the key reforms and challenges in our country's transformation process, the state of preparation for the accession negotiations and the conclusions of the European Commission's Enlargement Report 2024. It also examined Moldova's cooperation with the EU in the economic, energy, health, education and agriculture sectors.

In Brussels, the bilateral screening on Chapter 2 "Free movement of workers" and Chapter 3 "Right to set up businesses and freedom to provide services" was held.
