Chisinau, 9 December /MOLDPRES/ - The cultural events titled, Books’ Bridges. Dialogue through Literature, have brought together, at a book club, writers and pupils of more books from both banks of Dniester. The meetings with writers were held at seven schools from the Autonomous Territorial Unit (UTA) of Gagauzia and in the settlements from the security zone on both banks of Dniester. The event was organized by the Writers’ Union, with the financial support provided by European Union through the EU’s Confidence Building Measures Programme, implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
According to the organizers, for many of the children, this was the first meeting with a book author. Recitals of poems, small one-act plays, questions to the author – the pupils thoroughly prepared for these visits. The primary school pupils had deep emotions following a discussion with Maria Pilchin, who unveiled a book titled Doggy.
Besides the meetings with writers, also book donations were made, in order to thus promote the literary dialogue and the reading among young people. These books not also enriched the funds of the schools’ libraries, but also facilitated pupils’ access to the contemporary literature, giving them occasion to discover native authors and to deeper connect with their language and culture.
„I would like to offer sincere thanks to the European Union and UNDP for the support provided to this project. As a matter of fact, also to the colleagues writers for openness, involvement and support to the principal desideratum of the project: promotion of the human dialogue and rapprochement through art and literature,’’ the deputy president of the Moldovan Writers’ Union, Ivan Pilchin, said.
The Culture Platform was created with the support of the European Union and UNDP. The Platform promotes the cultural dialogue through the good cooperation of the civil society’s organizations and professionals from the culture sector on both banks of Dniester. The platform brings together about 380 managers of culture institutions, artists, writers and professionals in the culture field from the two banks of Dniester.
