Moldovan PM says teachers deserve more, government to continue to look for solutions

Chisinau, 9 December /MOLDPRES/ - The government will continue to identify financial resources, in order to increase the teachers’ salaries even more. Prime Minister Dorin Recean has given assurances to this effect. At the same time, the PM said that the government had allocated the maximal amount possible, given the situation that Moldova’s economy goes through a difficult period.   

„I know and I agree that we must increase the salaries of the teachers and professors. I understand them and I would render them justice that this is necessary, but we must proceed from the realities which we have,’’ Recean noted.  

The prime minister also said that there are also sectors in which the size of the salaries was not sufficient; yet, he gave assurances that the government would continue looking for solutions. ‘’I want to assure those from the educational system that we have allocated the maximal amount possible and we will continue to identify additional resources, including for increase of salaries in the education. Equally important is that we recognize that the salaries are still insufficient also in other sectors and the government’s care regards absolute all citizens of Moldova,’’ Dorin Recean stressed.     

Although Moldova goes through a difficult period from the economic viewpoint, the authorities identified financial means for increases in salaries, Recean said. ‘’We are in a quite difficult period for Moldova’s economy, for the regional and global economy, including from the European Union. Nevertheless, we found resources to be with the citizens of Moldova,’’ Prime Minister Dorin Recean said.  

The reaction of PM Recean comes, after the trade unions demanded an increase in the salaries in education by 35 per cent. The government planned an increase in the education field by nine per cent in the state budget law for 2025.
