Chisinau, 10 December /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu met European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Brussels today. The officials discussed the process of Moldova’s accession to the European Union, the support provided to Moldova and the initiatives which directly improve the citizens’ living, the presidential press service has reported.

The visit by the head of state takes place following the confirmation of the European integration way at the referendum, during which the citizens of Moldova chose the national goal of accession to EU to be laid down in the Constitution. The meeting is held in a context marked by the new composition of the European Commission, highlighting the continuity and consolidation of the close relation between Moldova and the European Union.

At the meeting, the sides agreed on the speeding up of the justice reform with European support. ‘‘The evaluation of the integrity of judges and prosecutors stays priority,’’ the head of state said.

The discussions were focused on concrete projects meant to contribute to the improvement of the living standards in Moldova, including through the implementation of the growth plan for Moldova. This plan of investments of 1.8 billion euros, got by Moldova on behalf of EU in the last autumn, will back the country’s economic and social development, directly contributing to the creation of safe and well-paid jobs, modernization of roads and villages, as well as the energy security.

„We move to the European Union, as we want a better living for each of us and our European friends are with us in this effort,’’ President Maia Sandu said.

Moldova, country candidate for accession to the European Union, opened the negotiations on accession this year, making a historical step in its European integration way. ‘’We together build a European Moldova, so that each citizen feels a change for the better,’’ the head of state also said.
