Chisinau, Dec. 23 /MOLDPRES/- The Reintegration Policy Office today reacted to reports about a so-called military action plan in the Transnistrian region, which the Chisinau authorities have described as false. In a statement to the press, the office said that there is no other reason for unrest on the left bank of the Dniester river than the problems generated by Gazprom, "which will lead to the deepening of the economic and social crisis in the region".
The Reintegration Office said "Chisinau firmly maintains its position on how to settle the Transnistrian issue: peacefully, through negotiations, without jeopardizing stability in the country and the region."
"The anti-Moldovan hysteria observed in recent days in Tiraspol, the attempt by Moscow and its acolytes on both banks of the Dniester to hold the Chisinau government responsible for the possible energy and humanitarian crisis in the eastern districts of the country, and the spread of alleged 'operational information' by the SVR about an imagined Moldovan military operation in the region reconfirms the hypothesis that the Russian authorities and their 'partners' on the ground are trying to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova, spread fear and distrust among citizens and expand the area of insecurity and confrontation in the region.
We urge Tiraspol not to be lured into this dangerous game. The energy crisis may affect the citizens on both sides of the Dniester and we must do everything in the power of those involved in the negotiation process to manage it impeccably," the Reintegration Policy Office said.
Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service reported on Monday that Moldova's President Maia Sandu is allegedly preparing a plan "for military operation to take control over the Transnistrian region". Adrian Băluțel, the head of the Moldovan President's Office denied the information and emphasized that these are "serious and dangerous disinformation, aimed to sow panic and distrust".
