Moldovan parliament speaker says interference from abroad, corruption two big dangers for country's security

Chisinau, 27 December /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has given an interview with a TV station at the end of the parliament’s session. Within the interview, the speaker made a retrospective of the laws adopted and announced the priorities for the next session. Grosu noted that Moldova faced two big dangers: ‘’interference from abroad on behalf of the Kremlin and the corruption.’’

According to the parliament speaker, during the present session, the MPs came up with their own legislative initiatives and backed the government’s initiatives. ‘’In a way, this year, we tried to turn the balance, in the sense that more initiatives must come on behalf of the government. The lawmakers were sometimes noisy, but they worked even till early morning. Now, I urge them to rest and then return to work after the New Year,’’ Grosu said.

The parliament speaker also said that Moldova had no time to lose and the legislation must be approximated to the European one. Igor Grosu recognized that rectifications were made to some laws; yet, the legislative process should be sped up.

The parliament speaker urged to opposition to get more involved, in order to build a European Moldova. He said that, on the next period, the MPs would make legislative amendments demanded by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC), which deal with electoral donations and the prosecutors and investigation officers might have new powers. Grosu called on the heads of the institutions in charge of the eradication of corruption to start working, as there are no ideal conditions for work and enough employees anywhere. ‘’There are institutions which, having modest resources, yielded results and proved that they can do things, while the others looked for justifications. When the country is in danger, the excuses are counter-productive,’’ Igor Grosu added.

The speaker denied the fake news launched by Russia concerning the territory on the left bank of Dniester, noting that all citizens would benefit from the state’s protection. ‘’Moldova is a country which has maintained the peace and maintains it in continuation on both banks of Dniester. There are our citizens there. Unfortunately, this aggressive state stills keeps an army on our territory illegally and we will each time insist to say them that Moldova does not need such guests.’’

Grosu also referred to compensations, as well as to the blackmail of the Russians on the transit of gas. He specified that Moldova would have electric energy; if it does not come from Kuchurgan, then from Romania or from the European energy network. ‘’Russia uses the winter for blackmail. I hope that this will be the last winter during which they still can exploit this instrument. The Russians do not observe their contractual provisions.’’

The parliament speaker reiterated that Moldova’s model of country’s development was the European one. ‘’My message for everybody is to make more effort, to learn to enjoy our results and be proud with the fact that we are citizens of this country. With the fact that we, with modest resources, have managed to cope with serious challenges. We should be happy with the small victories and not let ourselves divided,’’ Igor Grosu also said.
