Most important international economic event of year, Moldova Business Week 2024, inaugurated in Chisinau

Chisinau, 16 September /MOLDPRES/ - The most important international economic event of the year, Moldova Business Week 2024, was inaugurated in Chisinau today. The event brings together about 1,000 participants, who will explore Moldova’s investment opportunities during 16-20 September.  

At this year edition of the event, emphasis will be put on the promotion of the country brand and the steps taken in the promotion of future investments. Foreign investors, local and international entrepreneurs, business people, experts, analysts, representatives of state’s institutions, ministers, agencies, as well as members of diplomatic institutions participate in the event.     

Attending the opening of the Moldova Business Week, Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that ‘’this event is an occasion for the participants to speak with potential partners and explore new opportunities.’’ ‘’The efficiency of the state’s institutions is important; we de-bureaucratize and digitalize the processes. Not everything is ideal, but the government continuously improves the services it provides to entrepreneurs,’’ the PM said.     

Director of the Investments Agency Natalia Bejan said that, at Moldova Business Week 2024, 18 events would be organized in four key regions of Moldova: Chisinau, Edinet, Balti and Ungheni. They will be dedicated to the most competitive sectors of the national economy: real estate and IT, agro-food industry, electronics, tourism and wine-making, pharmaceutic industry and medical tourism, automotive industry.     

At the opening of the event, Ambassador of the European Union to Moldova Janis Mažeiks said that Moldova and the European Union ‘’have a strong partnership and it is based on the Association Agreement, which has been in force for ten years already.’’ ‘’Two thirds of Moldova’s exports go to the European Union. At the same time, EU is the source of 80 foreign direct investments in the country. I am sure that the process of accession to EU will create even more opportunities for successful business in Moldova. The accession to EU comes with many challenges and with many reforms. The country must work better for the benefit of the citizens and businesses. Now, we work with Moldova as a future EU member,’’ the official said.       

The ambassador noted that ‘’the justice reform is essential for the improvement of the business and investments sector,’’ ‘’I am sure that the authorities will successfully manage the justice reform and will carry it through,’’ Janis Mazeiks said, inviting foreign companies to come and invest in Moldova.  

Coordinator of U.S. Assistance to Europe, Eurasia, and Central Asia Maria Longi said that the United States backed Moldova’s aspirations to join EU, with emphasis on the transparency and anticorruption practices. ‘’We try to help Moldova create a friendlier environment for investments. The assistance on behalf of the USA comes during a time when Moldova is at a turning point. Moldova has made big steps in removing the bureaucracy and improvement of the regulations for business. We will continue with the investments, especially in the private sector. Due to the partnerships which we have created so far, we will see a Moldova which will be ever more independent, more competitive, more resistant to malignant influences and more aligned with the EU and the Atlantic partnerships,’’ Maria Longi said.       

Deputy PM, Economic Development and Digitalization Minister Dumitru Alaiba stressed that Moldova went through quick changes. ‘’My message is simple: invest in Moldova now and you will not regret in five years! Doubtlessly, our country will be the next EU member, with a strong, diversified, efficient, innovating, open and free economy, part of the European Single Market. This is our vision. And to grow faster, our agenda of reforms is focused on the development and strengthening of a stable and attractive business environment,’’ the deputy prime minister said.      

Moldova Business Week 2024 is an important platform for Moldova to present its economic potential and the progress at the country level to foreign investors and opportunities for local businesses. This given that, after its integration into the European Union till 2030, Moldova will have access to more European markets, with more than 1 billion consumers.
