Chisinau, 7 November /MOLDPRES/ - European Council President Charles Michel has assured President Maia Sandu that Moldova can rely on the full support of the European Union. The two officials today had a meeting at the summit of the European Political Community (EPC), held in Budapest, Hungary.
„Congratulations on your reelection, dear President Maia Sandu. On this critical period for you, you have proved great leadership and efforts to maintain Moldova on the European way. You can rely on the EU’s full support for Moldova’s economy, while you approach the reforms needed and advance to the European family,’’ Charles Michel said.
This is the first visit paid abroad, following Maia Sandu’s reelection as president of Moldova.
„Today, I am in Budapest, at an invitation by Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban, in order to participate in the fifth edition of the summit of the European Political Community. Along with European leaders, we discuss the edification of a safer and more prosperous future for the entire region. I came with a renewed mandate on behalf of the Moldovan citizens – our determination to advance on the European integration way and developing the country’s economy,’’ Maia Sandu said.
At the event, President Maia Sandu will meet European leaders, heads of state and government, to discuss the economic development of Moldova, the regional peace and security and the European integration process.
The European Political Community was created at an initiative by French President Emanuel Macron and represents a platform of political dialogue on peace and security on the continent, as well as on the cooperation between the EU states and the ones from outside the EU area.
The inaugural EPC summit took place in Prague in October 2022 and the second issue was hosted by Moldova in June 2023.
