Chisinau, 7 November /MOLDPRES/ - President Maia Sandu and the European Union leaders have agreed on the speeding up of the reforms in justice, in order to better protect the democracy in Moldova. The head of state today had meetings with European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola, at the summit of the European Political Community (EPC), held in Budapest, Hungary.
This is the first visit made abroad, after Maia Sandu’s reelection as president of Moldova. At the event, Maia Sandu met the European leaders, heads of state and government, in order to discuss the economic development of Moldova, the regional peace and security and the European integration process.
„We continued the discussions on the European integration process and the economic situation of Moldova with the European Union’s leaders: European Council President Charles Michel, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Parliament President Roberta Metsola. We agreed to launch, as soon as possible, the plan on EU’s economic growth for Moldova, as well as to speed up the reforms in justice, in order to better protect the democracy and the country,’’ Maia Sandu said.
The European Political Community was created at an initiative by French President Emanuel Macron and represents a platform of political dialogue on peace and security on the continent, as well as on the cooperation between the EU states and the ones from outside the EU area.
The inaugural EPC summit took place in Prague in October 2022 and the second issue was hosted by Moldova in June 2023.
