Chisinau, 7 November /MOLDPRES/ - The European leaders have repeatedly reaffirmed their support for Moldova and the backing for the country’s European integration way. They welcomed with respect the clear-cut option of the citizens, recently expressed at the constitutional referendum. President Maia Sandu made statements to this effect, who today participated in the summit of the European Political Community (EPC), held in Budapest, Hungary.
This is the first visit paid abroad, after Maia Sandu’s reelection as Moldova’s president. At the event, President Maia Sandu met European leaders, heads of state and government, to discuss the economic development of Moldova, the regional peace and security and the European integration process.
„At the fifth edition of the summit of the European Political Community, more friends of Moldova brought together at the same table, to discuss the peace and stability of our country. President of France Emmanuel Macron, President of Romania Klaus Iohannis, PM of Poland Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of Italy Giorgia Meloni, PM of the United Kingdom Keir Starmer, as well as European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen repeatedly reaffirmed their support for Moldova and the backing for the country’s European integration path, welcoming with respect the citizens’ clear-cut option recently expressed at the constitutional referendum,’’ Maia Sandu said.
„Through work, perseverance and friends from all regions of Europe, we will manage to develop Moldova and ensure, in continuation, the country’s security,’’ Maia Sandu stressed.
The European Political Community was created at an initiative by French President Emanuel Macron and represents a platform of political dialogue on peace and security on the continent, as well as on the cooperation between the EU states and the ones from outside the EU area.
The inaugural EPC summit took place in Prague in October 2022 and the second issue was hosted by Moldova in June 2023.
